Signal, Not Poison—Screening Mint Essential Oils for Weed Control Leads to Horsemint

چکیده

Weed control tries to suppress competitors for a crop and often relies on differential intoxication, making use of differences in uptake, development, or metabolism. We explored the possibility using natural signals shift competition favour crop. Using competitive horsemint (Mentha longifolia) as paradigm, we showed that essential oils from certain mint species seedling development different target specific efficient manner. The specificity concerned both donor receptor. demonstrated further effect oil was actin filaments, not microtubules. Since elimination will impair auxin transport, which is root regeneration vegetatively propagating weeds, tested efficacy combination with slow-release carrier against field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis), pertinent weed organic cereal production. observed this can be specifically blocked, especially if worked into soil. propose allelopathic interactions, relying manipulative chemical signalling, harbour significant potential control.

Allergic reaction to mint leads to asthma

Respiratory and cutaneous adverse reactions to mint can result from several different mechanisms including IgE-mediated hypersensitivity, delayed-type hypersensitivity (contact dermatitis), and nonimmunologic histamine release. Reactions to cross-reacting plants of the Labiatae family, such as oregano and thyme, as well as to the chemical turpentine, may clue the clinician in on the diagnosis o...

Potential Use of Essential oils from Four Tunisian Species of Lamiaceae: Biological Alternative for Fungal and Weed Control

The chemical composition of the essential oils (EOs) of four Lamiaceae (Thymus capitatus Hoff. et Link., Rosmarinus officinalis L., Origanum vulgare L. and Mentha pulegium L.) growing wild in Tunisia was analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Obtained results showed significant variations among the different species. The major constituents identifi...

The potential of botanical essential oils for insect pest control

Today, Insect Pest management (IPM) has to face up to the economic and ecological consequences of the use of pest control measures. Fifty years of sustained struggle against harmful insects using synthetic and oil-derivative molecules has produced perverse secondary effects (mammalian toxicity, insect resistance and ecological hazards). The diversification of the approaches inherent in IPM is n...

Design and Fabrication of a Microwave Weed Killer Device for Weed Control Applications

In this paper, the design and the results of a microwave radiation system for agriculture applications is discussed. The system is fabricated and successfully tested on weed seeds. The device, which uses a commercial 1 kW magentron, proved to be effective for preventing the germination control of popular weeds of Iran. Seven weed species were tested separately by using this system and then the ...

Essential Oils: From Conventional to Green Extraction

As previously described, EOs are defined as products extracted from natural plants by physical means only such as distillation, cold press and dry distillation. However, the loss of some components and the degradation of some unsaturated compounds by thermal effects or by hydrolysis can be generated by these conventional extraction techniques. These disadvantages have attracted the recent resea...
